My Portfolio

Jessica Harvey is an artist whose work aims to reclaim her identity, body and experiences by reconstructing autobiographically documented images with colour in her work. By photographing her everyday, Jessica collects images portraying her reality, objects, places, experiences, and uses colour in her paintings to subvert her representation from an object of observation of the male gaze, to an observer of herself and her reality alongside the viewer.

Recent projects feature a variety of imagery, some taken from everyday objects and places with marks of the artist's existence, and others being constructed images filled with the expression of how it feels to exist in her body, reclaiming the nude through symbolism, expression and the female gaze. Through this work, the artist is able to reclaim her reality from the male gaze and observe her own existence, contributing to the definition of the female gaze and urging others to adopt a new perspective on self exploration.
